When I was a little girl, I was halfheartedly convinced — thanks to my own imagination — that since my name means “princess” or “lady,” my soul mate must have a name that means “prince.” (Either that, or I’d marry someone named Eric because of Prince Eric on The Little Mermaid. Yes, I had some sort of weird, little girl reasoning for that connection, too.)

I’d never figured out whether there really was a name out there that means “prince,” but logic told me that, of course, there is. I’d never figured it out, that is, until tonight. Curious, I did a search of names and their meanings at http://www.behindthename.com and saw that the name Brendan means “prince.” There really isn’t one for “gentleman,” unless I plan on traveling to Indonesia.

It’s all very interesting. Something for the imagination to play with, at least — like horoscopes or tarot cards. It is now that I wonder, which is more important to a princess: her prince or her crown?
